Vince has had over 30 patterns tied and sold commercially around the world as a Signature Tier for Umpqua Feather Merchants. His flies has been featured in books such as Dave Klausmeyer’s 501Favorite Fly Tying Tips and The Master’s Fly Box, Todd Hosman’s Colorado Trout Flies, Randall Kauffman’s Fly Patterns, Geoff Mueller's What a Trout Sees and Ben Roman’s Montana’s Best Fly Fishing. In addition to these books Vince’s flies have also been featured in a host of publications and he has written for Eastern Fly Fishing, Southwest Fly Fishing, Fly Fisherman, and American Angler as well as being a contributing writer for Fly Tyer magazine. His first in a series of books from Lyons Press “Vince Wilcox’s Naturally Artificial Signature Flies” was released in April 2012.
Ross Purnell of Fly Fisherman magazine writes “Vince Wilcox is the most creative and unorthodox tier of his generation”
Geoff Mueller of The Drake writes "Vince Wilcox is one of contemporary flytying’s leading innovators. His signature trout patterns break the status quo because they are originals, period, invented and tested by the man behind the vise"
As a production fly tier he has tied hundreds of thousands of flies and when he’s not busy writing, taking macro shots, running his on-line store and tying flies, he is guiding in Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming and primarily on his northern Adirondack streams for trout, bass, northern pike, musky and landlock salmon.
Before returning to his hometown to open the new storefront in 2007 with his beautiful wife Andrea, Vince spent over twelve years living in Colorado where he attended Colorado State University for Wildlife Biology and Fishery Science. While living in Colorado he spent over 1500 days hiking and fishing the Rocky Mountains of Canada and the US.
Tom Graham with a nice Adirondack Bass.
Tom grew up on the streams of Pennsylvania chasing carp, stripers and trout at the NJ shore house. He came to the Adirondacks to attend Paul Smith's College in 2007 and graduated in 2011 with his BA in Fisheries Science. Since attending Paul Smith's he has become our head guide for the last 6 seasons and he does it all for us from traveling out west on our spring flings, tiny trout streams, big river floats for pike, bass and musky to fishing adventures on the Saranac Lake chain in our 22' pontoon boat. He is also a masterful fly tier and spends the winter fishing on the hard water and helping run the shop. Living his dream here in the Adirondacks, fishing!
We have some solid Northern Pike in the area to go after!
Chris, aka "Wiley", was introduced to fishing by his great grandfather at a young age targeting small mouth Bass on the St Lawrence River. Growing up just south of the Adirondacks Chris frequented the area and fell in love with the mountains, eventually moving here in 2006 and spent much of his time exploring the surrounding wilderness and waters. He is equally at home on the warm water for bass and pike as he is in a trout stream. When he is not on the water or tying flies he is spending time at his homestead in Saranac with his wife, daughter and two dogs. Chris has held many positions as an environmental educator so when you're out fishing with him your more than likely to learn about the surrounding wildlife as well as fishing! Tid bit: Although he bares the same last name as the shop, the shop was named for Vince's German Shorthair Pointer he had for 17 years..named after Wiley Coyote....now you know the rest of the story.
MATT "WORM" WORMELL
Fall Landlocks can be a great challenge!
Matt, aka "Worm", started fishing at an early age with spin gear for bass in his native waters of Northeastern MA. and began fly fishing ten years ago. He has fished many trout streams all throughout the New England area, including eastern and northern New York. As a young kid on a family vacation he was astonished by the beauty of the forest and streams in the Adirondack Mountains and aspired to live here one day. In 2012 he did just that by enrolling in Paul Smith's College to study Parks, Recreation and Facilities Management with a minor in biology in order to study ichthyology and entomology. He began frequenting the shop his freshman year and upon graduating was offered the opportunity to stay here and work for Wiley's Flies. Like all of us here at Wiley's Flies, Matt will pursue just about anything that swims from panfish to trout, landlock salmon, northern pike, musky and when given the chance some salty stripers. He can often be found in the shop helping out and is working his way up the guiding chain as he enhances his skill level for all species and knowledge of the area water. His enthusiasm for the sport is his strong point.
DOUG "PEANUT BUTTER JELLY" MOLINE
Doug getting it done on one of his favorites, the Ausable River.
We first met Doug back in 2009 when he frequented the shop at its former location in Rainbow Lake. Doug comes to us by way of Florida, spending each winter in Palm City with his wife on their race horse rescue farm and chasing pompano when he gets the chance. Come May, he returns to Schroon, NY where he has had a camp for decades and stays until mid October. Sometimes you can find him filling in at the shop or most often on one of his favorite rivers, the West Branch of the Ausable. Doug has great patience and loves working with kids. If you ever need a PB&J sandwich he always has it available in the truck!
